School Pictures

I love when school picture day comes around.  It takes me back to my first "real" photography job.  I lasted a year doing school photos.  And in that year I learned a lot about photography - what I love and hate - and about myself.  What I am driven to do. How I want to be.  What I am willing to compromise - or not - for the sake of working as a photographer.  Being a photographer. So every year, when school picture day comes around (ok, this is only the second year but I feel a trend beginning) I let Carter make the decisions on what she wants to wear, how she wants to smile...or not.  Because I know that ultimately, those pics only mark a school event.  It's still a rite of passage to have bad school photos-every kid should at least have a few!  I feel grateful that every fall I take her out for a special shoot where we play and capture who she really is.  At this age.  At this time. Because I know that these will be the pictures that truly mark her changes from year to year. Love you baby girl!

Christy and Al

Banff in the summer - it's an absolutely perfect spot for a wedding.  The mountains are crisp, the weather is warm and the air is fragrant with growth. Christy and Al had the most perfect August day for their wedding.  I'm so happy that I got to be a part of it! Enjoy your sneak peeks - I can't wait for you to see them all!

Andrea

One of the most challenging aspects of getting a good headshot lies in getting people to connect.  They may only have a few seconds or less to catch a casting directors eye...so every bit of energy and connection helps them stand out.  It was such a pleasure today to work with Andrea.  She had an amazing ability to connect and stay connected and the shoot was a breeze.  Thanks for the coffee and the fun afternoon!

Missing You

This new piece came out of missing Carter as she went to spend some time at Grandma's.  It helped me to connect to her energy, just by spending time with the pictures.  It never ceases to amaze me how pictures connect us to loved ones.  I can hear her giggle and see her inherent goofiness, and it makes me smile.

New Art Blog and Site

So I know I have mentioned it before, but it is new and I want LOTS of people to see it!  My new Jen Chipperfield Art site is live and exciting! I LOVE the opening gallery with it's fabulous closeups.  But venture beyond that and there are galleries with different series, art journaling and more happening on the inside.  Please visit - leave a coment to let me know you were there! I can't tell you how much this new venture means to me! In the meantime, here is the latest piece, Mischief.

Jennifer Chipperfield - the Blog is here!

Well, it's finally time.  My paintings and fine art need a home of their own. So I have my very own new site!!!! The link is on the right here, but officially, it is jenchipperfield.com . I hope you will come check it out, visit often and see what is going on.  I'm pretty excited about the new look!  And I'm still very much getting used to it as it is a Wordpress site and MUCH more complicated to set up than this one.  My series are featured as well as an art journal page.  Eventually I will have videos and MANY cool things.  But in the meantime, leave me some comments, show me some love...and please...let me know if anything isn't working!!!!
Thanks for all the support...you guys are the reason I am taking this step!

Chipperfield + company

Family. Some of my favourite people in the entire world. Always a gift and a pleasure to be with them...any time. This long delayed family portrait is bittersweet in many ways, but brings renewal and joy as well. Here is a teaser with just a few of the shots from the afternoon together.

Fortune 82

FORTUNE
Dreams of paint dripping and pretty girls,
gold gilding,sparkles and pretty swirls.
Elements of mystery with layers unfolding,
reaching to snare you into beholding
the wonders.

I collect fortunes.  Those tiny slips of paper tucked in to a tasty little bit of cookie.  Over the last few years, I have amassed a substantial collection, knowing that they would become art.  I regularly think about the many ways to work with them and yet, when I sit down to create, they stymy me.  They sit in their bag, taunting me with their messages. Until today.  This one leaped out of the pile and spoke to me. The Fortune series has begun. The dictionary defines Fortune as:

1 often capitalized : a hypothetical force or personified power that unpredictably determines events and issues favorably or unfavorably
2 obsolete : accident, incident
3 a : prosperity attained partly through luck : success b : luck 1 c plural : the turns and courses of luck accompanying one's progress (as through life) fortunes varied but she never gave up
4: destiny, fate fortune; also : a prediction of fortune

I love all the different elements of this definition. Here is where we begin, at Fortune 82

Scarlett

Well I have been terribly remiss with my posting! I shot these lovely images of Miss Scarlett in January and am JUST getting around to posting them now.  One of the qualities I love about babies is their luminescent skin. Scarlett literally seems to glow.  She has such a lovely complexion and her gorgeous blue eyes....I could go on and on. But really, she has everything that is just perfect about babies. Enjoy!
