Upper Island Retriever Club

Here are some more images of the amazing animals I had the pleasure of photographing last summer in Black Creek, B.C. I was a hunt test virgin and I was absolutely blown away by how much these dogs love to work.  Their flowing coats and expressions of joy feed my soul and I love love love photographing dogs at work/play! These are some faves of mine...enjoy!

Wet Noses Agility

Well I have a TON of catching up to do on the blog here, so expect to see a flurry of images over the next while.  It was a super exciting summer, and one of the highlights was shooting my first Agility event at Wet Noses in July.  They put on a phenomenal event....and really - is there any better work than sitting in the sun photographing dogs as they run obstacle courses?  Pure joy for all of us! Here are just a few of the awesome shots from that day - there were so many!

UIRC Hunt Tests at Black Creek B.C.

Ok - there are times when I can't believe that this is my job.  I have been shooting for 16 years and it still blindsides me sometimes how very fortunate I am to do what I do.  I was invited by the Upper Island Retriever Club to be their exclusive photographer at their inaugural Hunt Test event in Black Creek B.C.. What an incredible time I had.  The scenery was beyond breath taking, the people were kind and generous, but the absolute delight of my 5 days up there were the incredible dogs and their handlers. I was so blown away by these incredible dogs and how beautiful and capable they were.  The level of training it takes to get dogs to perform and achieve at this level is mind blowing.  Is it bad that I find myself using some hand signs on my daughter?  Maybe I can get her to tidy up more with the right hand commands!
I shot for 4 days though rain and blistering heat and came away absolutely exhausted, but exhilarated. After shooting thousands of images, they are finally online for viewing.  But here are a few of my favourites from the Masters stake on the first day.

Thank you so much to Kathy and Barb, Maureen and Lyall and everyone else who made it possible to be there.  It will go down in my books as one of the cooler shoots that I have done!

Arden

This piece is a composite image that I created from our awesome session last year on the Kathryn fields.  Isn't Arden one of the most beautiful dogs? And I had so much fun creating this canvas for Shannon that captured her in action in so many lovely ways.

Sherwood

Brrrrrr - it's a super chilly day out there.  I'm ensconced in my lair working on images with the heater going beside me. I was looking over the (very) long list of blog posts that I want to do and the images go back....a long way. So I thought I would choose some from the end of summer to make me feel warmer....if only virtually. I was asked by Lori and Brian at Gold 'C' Ker, to go the training fields in Kathryn to work with a group of wonderful people and their Golden Retrievers.  What an amazing day watching them work! There were some young uns there learning what to do with the birds, and some more experienced dogs as well. I love the water launching shot - Sherwood was one of the few that were brave enough to really leap out there as the water level was quite low.
I will post some more of the other dogs over the next few days, but in the meantime, this is Sherwood! (Isn't he gorgeous?)

Hula

The lovely Shannon brought Hula in for her 9 month shots and OMG do I love puppy kisses! And fur...and...ok really I love everything puppy.  I can hardly wait to spend more time with her as she gets older! Here are a few of our favourite shots.

Knot

I LOVE DOGS!!!!!!!
Have you ever noticed that? I love their energy and unconditional love...and...their doggie-ness! So when I was asked to come out and spend the afternoon with Lori and Knot from Wet Noses, I was all over it!  We trudged through knee deep snow to get to the perfect spot on their beautiful property.  And let me tell you...it was worth it! There were these golden little areas in the bush, red brush bristling up through the snow; it was really quite magical. Or would have been if we weren't soaked to the hip! ;) It is so lovely working with a dog that is SO well trained. He ran thither and yon for us, with no complaint.  And after teasing him mercilessly with a pheasant, we released him to go back to his doggy ways. So, without further ado, here is the layout of the canvas installation we designed for their home. The other shots below are the individual pieces that make up the grouping.

And for something a little different...check out this video that shows some of the making of the canvases!

I hope you enjoyed!
