Ben

The world is a sadder place since the passing of Ben a couple of weeks ago.  I am so grateful that I got a chance to meet him and share in his beautiful energy.  Dogs are the most incredible creatures with the love they bring to us. Here are a few of the pictures we captured in the fall...thanks for letting me be a part of this Monica.

Little Boys

Hey Jen - can you try to do pictures with little boys in them too?  But I love pretty girls!  They're sparkly and blingy! So therein lay my challenge.  And lo and behold...little boys are fun too! The top one is the boy before I decided what his background would be.  And then layers of paint and old paper came together, along with a quote.Add in some beeswax and tadah!  Boy Painting!

Clown

Ahhhhhh!!!!! And the angels sing.  I have been battling with this painting almost since I started the drawing on it.  I needed to step out and try one that wasn't just a pretty girl. Once I did the actual first painting on it, I nearly tossed it. Until a friend said, are you nuts?  Try something else with it! There's no point in just getting rid of it. So I pushed it and added more layers and glitter (which was almost a tragic mistake).  And then I was pretty happy with it.  So, this morning I thought...it needs wax.  I played with my new batik pen and then melted a layer of lovely lovely beeswax over the top. Gave it a polish...and that's when I heard the singing.  I LOVE IT!!!! It's hard to see the details in the scan, but trust me.  It has such a lovely presence! You can see it on my Etsy site here.

Seriously...

How is this level of chaos even possible?  And what is even scarier, is that I had already been cleaning and tidying for about 15 minutes. My art desk is out of control.  It seems like I get to a point where I literally have no room to create anymore - I am working in about a 10"x12" area with stuff towering to either side of me.  That is usually the breaking point, where I don't even want to sit down there to try to create.  And I don't love mess.  I don't thrive in it.  But my personality seems to generate it.  I work on something for a bit then set it aside to dry.  Or I don't want to file that paper scrap because I might use it on the next creation. And I know that I really just don't have my area quite set up right yet, because for all the things that do have a place?  It's a miracle of organization.  So I need to spend some time really just dreaming about exactly how I want/need this space to function.  So that everything has a place but is accessible. It's close, but I think some drying racks are much needed.  Some journal storage space. Some place for my jars and jars and bottles of mediums and gessos. Some lovely baskets perhaps?  Which keeps it all contained, but easy to grab? Oooh...I think I love the idea of changing up the shelves to be deeper to hold baskets and lovely rows of paint.  The back wall was cool when I did it, but my focus has changed since then and I just need...more. Any thoughts?  What would you do?

Kyler is One Year!!!!

This year has flown by - I can't believe that Kyler is one! And oh! Did his parents get a workout at this shoot! Wrangling a one year old and a toddler may be the most challenging shoot to take on - save adding a cat in there too...want to try that next time Jill? Enjoy your sneek peek!
